With the 2008 and the 2012 Presidential Elections, we saw an increase of Latinos stand up and vote. Now with a new 10-1 Austin City Council Districts, we hope for more representation but the question still is: Will Latinos in Austin show up at the polls? In Austin, we’ll know in a couple of weeks. We also know that Austin is growing and with that growth in the forefront is the Latino population. We know that people have an understanding of Latino growth in Austin but do we really know how it impacts their districts or neighborhoods? For this reason, we broke down the new Austin City Council Districts by Latino population in Austin. My main questions still are:
WILL LATINOS SHOW UP AND VOTE?
DO THE CANDIDATES KNOW THE IMPACT OF LATINOS IN THEIR DISTRICTS?
What do you think?
Thanks to City of Austin demographer Ryan Robinson for reviewing the data on Latino chart.
